His abstract-impressionistic, simplistic-folksy &nbsp;style comes from his love of the mountains, climbing 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado, fly fishing and fly tying, skiing, and 30 years as a scientist. His preferred medium is oil-on-canvas because of the way the pigments blend, how they flow on the canvas, and how easy a picture can be modified over several days. Pictures, photos, and plein air (outdoor) observations provide subject matter for his paintings.&nbsp; Fun, excitement, adventure, challenge, and scientific discipline are part of each oil and\/or mixed media painting.
